State Board Approves Parent Trigger Regulations

The State Board of Education unanimously approved regulations that will clarify processes around the Parent Empowerment Act, commonly known as the “Parent Trigger” Law. The law, which has sparked controversy since first being applied to Compton’s McKinley Elementary School in December 2010, requires a district to implement a new school reform model at low-performing schools if a majority of parents sign a petition to this effect.
