Curriculum Required to Include Contributions of Diverse Peoples

Governor Brown has signed The FAIR (Fair, Accurate, Inclusive and Respectful) Education Act. Existing law required social studies instruction to include reference to the contributions of various culturally and racially diverse persons and prohibited discriminatory school activities or materials. The new law adds lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender people, Pacific Islanders, and persons with disabilities to categories of people protected under state law.
