California Releases API and AYP Results
Wednesday, August 31st, 2011

The California Department of Education released the 2010-11 state Academic Performance Index (API) and the federal Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) measures. Forty-nine percent of schools exceeded the state API target of 800, up from 46 percent in 2009-10, and all student subgroups showed an API increase, though substantial achievement gaps remain. Despite the overall growth, the percentage of elementary, middle, and high schools meeting federal AYP targets decreased to 35 percent, 18 percent, and 41 percent, respectively.
