On April 29, 2011, the PACE seminar series in Sacramento featured representatives from the California Collaborative on District Reform and EdSource to address 8th grade mathematics placement and achievement. California Collaborative Chair Jennifer O’Day drew on the Collaborative's recent brief on 8th grade algebra to share lessons and perspectives from California districts on ensuring student access and success in higher level mathematics. Trish Williams and Matt Rosin from EdSource presented new findings from an analysis of 7th and 8th grade math and Algebra I CST scores of 70,000 California students. The session also featured Deputy State Superintendent Deb Sigman to explore implications for the state in light of the recent adoption of the Common Core State Standards.
