Six urban California school district superintendents wrote a letter to legislative leaders after Governor Gavin Newsom’s May budget revision cutting funding for school districts by about $7 billion. Collaborative members Chris Steinhauser (Long Beach USD), Kyla Johnson-Trammel (Oakland USD), and Jorge Aguilar (Sacramento City USD) were among the six superintendents to sign the letter arguing that the funding cuts, combined with the additional expenses required to re-open schools safely during this coronavirus pandemic, will be untenable without more state money and more precise guidance from the state.
