We will continue our exploration and collective problem-solving in response to the educational challenges and heightened inequities engendered by the COVID-19 pandemic. Those challenges have certainly not abated since we began our discussions on school reopening and distance learning in June. In addition, the persistent uncertainty, fear, and tensions in our school communities and society as a whole have hindered even the most committed intentions to examine and root-out the structures, practices, and cultures of institutionalized racism that perpetuate unequal opportunities and outcomes. This meeting presents an opportunity to attend to some of the urgent needs facing school districts in the context of the pandemic, while also exploring ways in which current approaches can facilitate progress toward greater equity for historically underserved students.
