The American Educational Research Association (AERA) granted the 2017 Distinguished Public Service Award to Mike Kirst in recognition of his work to enact or implement policies that are grounded in education research, and for being at the forefront of efforts to increase recognition and support for education research. Kirst and 18 other honorees were recognized for their contributions to educational research at AERA’s Annual meeting in San Antonio on April 24, 2018. Mike Kirst is professor emeritus of education at Stanford University and serves as the current president of the California State Board of Education.
