As part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA), the U.S. Department of Education is committing over $100 billion in education investments.

Race to the Top

On November 12, 2009, the Department released the final guidance and application for ARRA’s Race to the Top Fund, which will make $4.35 billion available in competitive grants to states in two phases. The Phase 1 application deadline is January 19, 2010, with awards to be announced in April 2010. The Phase 2 application deadline is June 1, 2010, with awards to be announced in September 2010. If California wins the award, they could receive between $300 and $700 million.
